Rookie Alfred Collins forced a key fumble near the goal line that helped the 49ers secure a 26-23 overtime win despite multiple injuries, coach Kyle Shanahan said.
- On Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers beat the Los Angeles Rams 26-23 in overtime at SoFi Stadium, as Eddy Pineiro's 41-yard field goal on the 49ers' OT possession decided the game.
- Coming into the game, the 49ers were depleted after ruling out Brock Purdy, Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings, and oddsmakers made San Francisco 8 1/2-point underdogs on a short week.
- With under 75 seconds to play, Alfred Collins dove behind Kyren Williams and punched the ball free near the 1-yard line, forcing and recovering the fumble, while Marquis Sigle and Deommodore Lenoir stopped Williams in overtime.
- The win moved the San Francisco 49ers to 4-1 and the Los Angeles Rams to 3-2, snapping a three-game losing streak to Los Angeles in a result coach Kyle Shanahan called `It was a huge character win.'
- Next up, the San Francisco 49ers head to Tampa Bay on Oct. 12, with Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings expected back as the team begins an early four-of-five road stretch.
