4 dead, more casualties feared after blast at firecracker factory in Bihar's Siwan

  • On Friday, a devastating explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Alampur, Bihar, killed five members of one family. The blast caused the house to collapse, scattering debris onto the road in Siwan District.
  • Locals reported that Mohd. Amaruddin Mian had operated the unlicensed firecracker manufacturing unit at his residence for several years. Large quantities of stored explosives triggered repeated blasts over approximately two hours.
  • Siwan District Magistrate Vijay Prakash Meena and Superintendent Police Bharat Soni arrived at the Jamo site to oversee rescue operations. Efforts were initially hampered by large crowds of villagers gathered at the scene.
  • Authorities suspended the Jamo Bazar station house officer and a village watchman following the incident. Officials have not confirmed if the manufacturing operation possessed a valid license or complied with safety regulations.
  • Rescue teams continue searching the debris as officials warn the death toll could rise further. Questions have emerged regarding the storage of explosives in residential areas, with reports suggesting similar activities may persist nearby.
