3.6 Million Recalled Hoses May Explode, Cause Temporary Hearing Impairment

UNITED STATES, JUL 24 – HydroTech hoses sold at major U.S. retailers have caused 29 injuries due to bursting, prompting a recall of 3.6 million units, officials said.

  • According to a Thursday notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, about 3.6 million HydroTech 5/8-inch Expandable Burst-Proof Hoses are recalled across the United States, after reports they can burst unexpectedly and pose potential impact and hearing hazards.
  • Winston Products determined that the hoses can burst if the interior plastic strain relief fails, with the recall covering units made on or before August 31, 2024, which were sold between January 2021 and April 2025.
  • To date, Winston Products has received at least 222 reports of hoses bursting, resulting in 29 injuries including one bone bruise, two sprains and five reports of temporarily impaired hearing, the CPSC notes.
  • Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled hoses immediately and can return them at Ace Hardware, Do It Best, Home Depot or Walmart for a full refund, while others should contact Winston Products to initiate an online claim.
  • The hoses were sold at Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot and Target for garden, lawn care, car washing and other uses, and can be identified by date code markings and product names listed in the recall notice.
