India Urges Dhaka to Uphold Border Sanctity After 3 Bangladeshi Smugglers Killed in Tripura Clash
The three men were suspected of cattle theft and killing a villager, leading to a violent clash and their deaths by beating and hacking, authorities said.
On October 15, 2025, three Bangladeshi men were killed near Bidyabil village in Khowai district, Tripura, about 3 kms inside Indian territory; the victims were Pandit Mia, Sajal Mia and Juel Mia from Habiganj.
Having crossed from Sreemangal two to three days earlier, the group was suspected of smuggling cattle and confronted by Indian residents near Bidyabil village.
Authorities say the attackers used iron daos and knives, and two of the attackers were found dead at the spot while the third died in hospital on Thursday; local police registered a case and sent the bodies for postmortem.
Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the killings as a 'heinous act' and demanded an immediate investigation, while the Ministry of External Affairs of India handed over the mortal remains of all three to Bangladesh.
Reports note increased intrusion in Bidyabil in recent weeks, and investigations are under way with local police registering a case as India commits to border peace under the Land Boundary Agreement of 2015.
The Bangladesh government strongly protested the killing of three Bangladeshi citizens in Tripura on October 15, calling it a violation of human rights. Bangladesh stated that this heinous crime cannot be accepted.
