23 children die of malnutrition within a month in Sudan’s Kordofan region
The blockade and fighting in South Kordofan caused severe malnutrition and supply shortages, leading to 23 child deaths in one month, amid a worsening famine crisis, aid experts said.
- Between Oct. 20 and Nov. 20, the Sudan Doctors Network reported 23 children died of malnutrition in Kadugli and Dilling, South Kordofan.
- The RSF's sieges and blockades have prevented food and medicine entry, producing severe acute malnutrition and shortages in besieged towns amid intensified fighting earlier this year.
- Famine was declared in Kadugli earlier this month by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, with about 370,000 people pushed into famine and 3.6 million one step from famine.
- The takeover of el-Fasher has forced tens of thousands to flee to overcrowded camps, while aid workers say RSF fighters killed more than 450 people at Saudi Hospital and committed house-to-house assaults.
- Since April 2023, the conflict has killed more than 40,000 people and displaced over 14 million, creating the world's largest humanitarian crisis, aid groups say.
