9-Year-Old Boy Rescued After Being Buried Under Collapsing Sand at Silver Lake Sand Dunes
TROUP COUNTY, GEORGIA, JUL 5 – Marquis Rice, 21, was recovered after drowning at West Point Lake, marking the second drowning there within a week, officials said.
- On Saturday, a father and his son from the Chicago suburbs tragically drowned in Lake Michigan near Dune Acres, Indiana. David Meneou, age 65, who lived in Joliet, and his 20-year-old son, Jameson Meneou of Lockport, were both pulled from the water but later pronounced dead.
- The drownings happened after Jameson went into deeper water and started having difficulty, leading David to try and save him but also encounter trouble in the water.
- A passerby pulled both men from the lake before conservation officers and park rangers took over, administering CPR while transporting them by boat to the Port of Indiana.
- Officials pronounced both men dead at a local hospital around 6:16 p.m., confirming their identities and ages as part of the ongoing investigation.
- The incident remains under investigation as authorities continue confirming details, with a Beach Hazard Statement issued for the nearby Kenosha County area.
