BMW Sends Off the 6th-Gen M3 CS with a Manual Gearbox, Rear-Wheel Drive
BMW says the limited-run sedan weighs about 75 pounds less than a regular M3 and starts at $108,450.
On Monday, BMW announced the 2027 BMW M3 CS Handschalter, a limited-production sports sedan exclusively for the United States pairing a six-speed manual transmission with rear-wheel drive.
Responding to enthusiast demand, BMW developed this 'hand shift' model after positive feedback on an April Fool's joke last year, positioning it as a final send-off for the sixth-generation M3.
The Handschalter features a 473-horsepower twin-turbo inline-six, weighs up to 75 pounds less than a normal M3, and carries a $108,450 starting price—cheaper than the previous automatic AWD model.
Enthusiasts will see the car debut at the Petersen Automotive Museum's All-BMW Cruise-In show in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 23, with production beginning in July.
BMW hasn't disclosed exact production volumes, only noting quantities will be 'very limited' as the company prepares to transition to next year's all-electric quad-motor M3 derived from the Neue Klasse platform.
