2026 'Doctor Who' Christmas special in the works
- On October 28, 2025, the BBC confirmed Disney+ exited its two-season partnership and announced a 2026 Christmas special written by Russell T Davies.
- The initial two-season deal, which covered 26 episodes plus a spin-off, fuelled rumours as Disney+ had been the series' worldwide home since 2023 outside the U.K. and Ireland.
- Ncuti Gatwa exited after the finale in May when his 15th Doctor regenerated into Billie Piper, and the season averaged 3.2million viewers, down half a million from the previous season.
- The BBC said it will assure fans the Doctor remains and plans for the next series will follow, while Lindsay Salt thanked Disney+ and Tranter's Bad Wolf will produce the Christmas special.
- Before next year’s special, fans will see The War Between the Land and the Sea on BBC iPlayer and BBC One later this year, with a full season in 2027.
