2 Naga civilians killed by unknown armed individuals in Manipur: Police
Police said armed miscreants killed two Naga civilians and injured two others, and investigators have not confirmed the motive.
On Saturday, armed miscreants shot dead two Naga civilians at Kalenjang village in Manipur's Senapati district. Rocky Mao and Kumar Poumai were killed inside a house, while Ashiho Sani and Adani Manio were injured and hospitalized.
The attack occurred barely 48 hours after Myanmar-based assailants gunned down four people in Kamjong district. At least 13 people have been killed in separate gun attacks across Manipur during September.
One deceased was a Mao Naga and the other a Poumai Naga; the injured, Ashiho Sani and Adani Manio, also belong to the Mao Naga community. Kalenjang village had been abandoned following arson incidents in July.
Condemning the killings, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh called the incident a "cowardly act of violence." He questioned how long authorities will keep "counting bodies" instead of controlling the law and order situation.
The incident coincided with the United Naga Council suspending an economic blockade after talks with the Centre. These repeated attacks have heightened concerns among Naga civil society organizations regarding resident security throughout the state.
