Judge Grants Bond to 2 Accused of Ramming Immigration Vehicle in Brighton Park
Marimar Martinez and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz face federal charges after ramming Customs and Border Protection vehicles, leading to one agent firing five shots, officials said.
- On Saturday morning, federal prosecutors charged Marimar Martinez, 30, and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, 21, after their cars hit a CBP vehicle and boxed in three agents, prompting an agent to fire five shots at Martinez.
- A convoy of civilian vehicles began tailing the agents, running stop signs and red lights in a coordinated effort, while Martinez reportedly shouted `la migra` and was named in a CBP intelligence bulletin last week, Homeland Security officials said.
- Following the collision, both vehicles fled but were later located: Martinez sought treatment and was found at an auto repair shop, Ruiz was captured at a nearby gas station.
- Officials said no officers were seriously injured, Homeland Security and federal officials said enforcement will continue and further arrests are likely.
- This incident is the third violent encounter in one week, following attacks by Miguel Escareno De Loera in Norridge and Widman Osberto Lopez-Funes in Bensenville amid sanctuary city enforcement tensions.
