Girl 'Raped and Murdered' in Odisha’s Bhadrak; Locals Stage Protest

On Wednesday , police in Bhadrak said a 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed in Bhadrak district, and one accused was arrested from Jagatsinghpur district.
The girl, a class 3 student, left home around 2 pm on Tuesday and did not return, and her family lodged a complaint alleging rape, murder, and the body dumped in a bush while Baligaon residents blocked roads demanding arrests and flagged illegal shops.
Police sent the body for a post-mortem and a forensic team visited, while SDPO Trilochan Sethi, Chandbali Tahasildar, and Paresh Mohanty have been camping and one platoon of the armed police force deployed.
Irate residents demolished the accused's home and continued protests, while Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi ordered stringent punishment and announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for the family.
Police described it as prima facie sexual assault and murder, said they are investigating with some detained individuals, and Bhadrak SP reported the situation is under control with local law-and-order forces on site.
