1 dead in Surrey’s Newton area after early morning shooting
IHIT says no arrests have been made and no suspect information is available after a man was found dead in a vehicle, police said.
Surrey Police Service officers responded to reports of a shooting at 138 Street and 62 Avenue in Newton at 12:22 a.m. on Sunday, locating a man with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle that had struck a power pole.
The RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has assumed control of the investigation supported by SPS, with no arrests made and no suspect information available at this early stage.
This incident marks Surrey's 13th homicide of the year; the vehicle's collision with a power pole caused a power outage affecting 64 homes in the area starting around 12:30 a.m.
Despite life-saving efforts by Surrey Fire and BC Emergency Health Services , the victim was pronounced dead at the scene following the emergency response.
