1 dead in Surrey’s Newton area after early morning shooting

IHIT says no arrests have been made and no suspect information is available after a man was found dead in a vehicle, police said.

  • Surrey Police Service officers responded to reports of a shooting at 138 Street and 62 Avenue in Newton at 12:22 a.m. on Sunday, locating a man with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle that had struck a power pole.
  • The RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has assumed control of the investigation supported by SPS, with no arrests made and no suspect information available at this early stage.
  • This incident marks Surrey's 13th homicide of the year; the vehicle's collision with a power pole caused a power outage affecting 64 homes in the area starting around 12:30 a.m.
  • Despite life-saving efforts by Surrey Fire and BC Emergency Health Services , the victim was pronounced dead at the scene following the emergency response.
