Firefighters in southern Europe and Turkey have largely managed to contain the devastating forest fires of the past few days. The most difficult situation on Saturday was still in northern Portugal, where a fire has been raging for days near the small town of Ponte da Barca.

For 22 hours, more than two thousand operatives, supported by 660 landslides, were fighting 89 fires on this Saturday in mainland Portugal, with a view to fires in the Royal Villa and Ponte da Barca.

In southern Europe there are successes in the fight against the big forest fires, but the risk of new fires remains very high.
Fire broke out a week ago and has already consumed more than six thousand hectares of the National Park of Peneda-Gerês (PNPG). There are about 500 operational and medium-sized airmen on the ground.
