Savannah, Tennessee · SavannahPhyllis Ann Ballard, 68, of Shiloh, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, at her residence surrounded by family. She was born on March 4, 1956, in Corinth, Mississippi, to the late John and Bobbie Hartson McAfee.
She was a retired waitress for Ed Shaw’s and Hagy’s Catfish Hotel and a member of Mount Vinson Methodist Church.

Savannah, Tennessee · SavannahA local girl realized a lit candle had been knocked over in time to keep her home from being more heavily damaged in the resulting fire Friday morning.
Hardin County Fire Chief Melvin Martin said the girl left the house with her father to go to school. When they stopped at a nearby store along the way, she asked her father if the candle could start a fire because she thought she might have heard it fall when she slammed the door to her bedroom.

Savannah, Tennessee · SavannahM. Marie Sharp Counce, 95, of Shiloh, passed away on Saturday, March 30. She was born on Sept. 23, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Bill Sharp and Mabel Kemp Lichenstein.
On April 28, 1972, she was united in marriage to Bobby Lowell Counce, who preceded his wife in death on Dec. 17, 2000.

Savannah, Tennessee · SavannahThe Tennessee Highway Patrol announced it will conduct a two-hour sobriety roadside safety checkpoint in Hardin County on Friday, April 5.
The checkpoint starts at 10 p.m. and is on Tenn. 22, north of Hagy Lane.
Troopers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol and drug impairment, and enforce driving under the influence and other laws.
