Despite recent beneficial rains, drought is on the rise once again in Oklahoma. Northwest and east-central sections of Oklahoma saw drought increase on this week’s U.S. Drought Monitor map, and overall coverage has increased from 3% of the state to more than 15% in the last three weeks. Wolves Win Jake Leffler Memorial

With the regular season quickly winding down, the Davis softball team lost a pair of games last week to Wilson and Ada. The losses dropped the Lady Wolves’ overall record to 6-11.
Davis visited Sulphur April 15 for Murray County Bedlam and the last contest before postseason. The Lady Wolves, along with Lexington, will compete April 18 in the Class 4A District Tournament at Tishomingo.

Lady Wolves Lose Two, Districts Thursday

Track is now in full stride as both Davis teams competed at Alex on April 12. Up against 20-plus schools, the Lady Wolves registered 75 points while the Wolves recorded 28.
Kensley Barnes captured her third straight first-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles. Her time of 49.09 seconds is the best so far, this young season.
Cassidy Parsons took second in the pole vault. The junior cleared the bar in 8-06.00.

Tracksters Run at Alex, Host Meet Friday

Rain hampered both Davis golf teams from playing their full slate last week. The Lady Wolves’ tournament scheduled for April 9 at Lake Murray was canceled due to the inclement weather. So was the Wolves’ tournament at Falconhead the next day.
The only action for either squad was the Lady Wolves who placed seventh at Pauls Valley on April 8. Davis shot a combined round of 438.

Davis, Oklahoma · DavisJudy Ruth Orsborn, of Stratford, was born Sept. 19, 1949, in Sulphur, to the late John E. and Helen L. (Shorter) Orsborn. She died April 11, 2024, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 23 days.
At the early age of seven, she and her family moved from Sulphur to Hereford, Texas. After graduating from Hereford High School, she married and to this union were born three sons, Scott, Brad and Gabe. For many years Orsborn was a stay-at-home mother cari…See the Story

Davis, Oklahoma · DavisDoris T. Drake was born Nov. 20, 1929, to Tommy and Ola Patton in Springer. She died on April 13, 2024, at the age of 94 years. Doris grew up in Springer, where she attended school and was a member of the graduating class of 1949. She was a member of the Vinita Avenue Church of Christ and will be laid to rest on April 17, 2024, in Oaklawn Cemetery.
