Zelenskyy, European leaders to convene in London amid US peace push
Leaders evaluate US peace plan focusing on security guarantees, frozen Russian assets, and defence support amid continued Russian attacks and stalled negotiations, officials said.
- On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in London to review US-led negotiations.
- Following three days of US–Ukrainian talks in Miami, negotiators including Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Rustem Umerov, and Andriy Hnatov left without an agreement.
- Talks will centre on security guarantees, use of frozen Russian assets and defence options, with French President Emmanuel Macron urging continued efforts, saying it's "without which no robust and lasting peace will be possible."
- Russia's wave of attacks, including 653 drones and 51 missiles, caused widespread outages as over 1,600 drones, 1,200 bombs and nearly 70 missiles struck Ukraine last week.
- With Washington pushing a controversial plan, European leaders are uneasy about timing and tilt as US special envoy Steve Witkoff and negotiator Jared Kushner met Vladimir Putin last week, with Moscow rejecting parts of the proposal.
