Trump says Russia and Ukraine reached 'energy ceasefire'
On Sunday, President Donald Trump declared an "ENERGY CEASEFIRE" in the war between Russia and Ukraine, stating the measure was effective immediately. No official confirmation followed from the involved nations.
Diplomatic friction intensified Friday after Trump announced a commercial diesel deal, prompting the Treasury Department to authorize transactions through April 2027. Ukrainian officials criticized the move as counterproductive during peace consultations in Miami.
President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed Ukraine's conditional readiness to halt drone strikes on Russian refineries if Moscow agreed to a reciprocal, verifiable stop to attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, according to an ABC News interview.
Neither the Ukrainian government nor the Kremlin provided immediate confirmation of the ceasefire's parameters or verification mechanisms. Critics accused Trump of making similar announcements to "manipulate markets," which have proven responsive to his claims.
Russian forces carried out 196 strikes against Ukraine's electrical sector and 20 against oil infrastructure over the preceding week, resulting in 153 civilian deaths, according to reports from Zelensky. The bombardments underscore the stakes in negotiations.
This agreement is presented as a pact of mutual non-aggression to remove the energy and oil installations of the two countries from the list of targets
Russia and Ukraine would have agreed to an agreement, the US president posts on Truth Social without mentioning any details. Moscow and Kiev have not yet been confirmed.
