Zamfara: Troops intercept 180 explosives, neutralize terrorists
Troops detained a suspect and his vehicle after intercepting the explosives during a vehicle check, with separate operations also killing two terrorists, officials said.
- On Friday, troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, intercepted 180 units of 20mm Super Power explosives in Zamfara State, with 57-year-old Sani Umar allegedly transporting them to terrorists in Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State.
- The Theatre Command stated these operations aim to disrupt logistics networks supplying terrorist groups, while troops conducting an offensive clearance operation in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area engaged terrorists on Saturday near Garin Kaso.
- During the Garin Kaso engagement, troops neutralized two terrorists and recovered two rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition, and two motorcycles, while surviving attackers fled with injured colleagues.
- Troops of 1 Brigade also responded to a terrorist attack on motorists along the Anka-Gummi Road in Anka Local Government Area, where injured civilians were evacuated to General Hospital, Anka, for treatment.
- Army Headquarters monitoring team leader Maj.-Gen. Kenneth Chigbu visited the headquarters of Operation SAFE CONDUCT in Ede, Osun, charging troops deployed for the August 15 governorship election to remain professional and report security concerns promptly.
