- During CinemaCon, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema announced that Zach Cregger will write and direct The Flood, an original sci-fi thriller scheduled for release on Aug. 11, 2028.
- Cregger shifts genres following his 2025 horror hit Weapons, which earned $269M worldwide, after the 2022 breakout film Barbarian was produced on a $4M budget to critical acclaim.
- Before arriving at New Line, The Flood "was previously being set up at Netflix, however, the project stalled" due to the streamer's refusal to grant theatrical release, TheWrap reported; Amblin Entertainment is producing.
- Concurrent with the sci-fi announcement, New Line also scheduled the Weapons prequel Gladys for Sept. 8, 2028, with Cregger co-writing alongside Zach Shields and producing with Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Miri Yoon.
- Warner Bros. Picture Group co-heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy praised Cregger's collaborative approach, stating they "value the collaborative spirit" he brings as the filmmaker prepares his ambitious 2028 slate.
