Yukon Minerals Work Still Under Review Despite Federal Announcement
Regeneration says the Yukon reference reflects early review, while territorial officials say no project is underway and a clearer picture is expected by fall.
A federal release from Prime Minister Mark Carney's office listed the Yukon for potential mine cleanup and critical minerals recovery projects involving Dutch firm Liminal By WMC and U.S. company Regeneration Enterprises Inc.
Michael McPhie, managing director of Regeneration, said the Yukon reference reflects ongoing evaluation work rather than a confirmed project, as the company reviews legacy mine sites to identify potential partnership opportunities.
Yukon government press secretary Tim Kucharuk stated the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources reports no active work by either company, with both the minerals and abandoned mines branches confirming no projects underway.
Natural Resources Canada spokesperson Rachel MacDonald clarified the department supports early-stage planning and regulatory coordination but is not involved in specific project planning or preliminary work with the two companies.
Future territorial engagement is expected to begin in the coming months, with a clearer picture of potential involvement anticipated by the fall, contingent upon community support and whether sites fit the company's investment criteria.
