You Can Now Save Your Aadhaar Card Directly on Google Wallet: Check Step-by-Step Guide
- On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Google officially announced that Google Wallet now supports Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials in India. Built with the Unique Identification Authority, this feature lets users store a secure, device-based version of their Aadhaar ID.
- Previously, the Aadhaar ID card was held only in a dedicated app. This digital-first ID is issued to contain 'demographic data' including name, address, gender, date of birth, and photograph of the Aadhaar Number Holder.
- Google noted this isn't exactly a "linking" of Aadhaar with your Google account. A key feature is "selective disclosure," ensuring users share only the minimum required information, such as name or age, rather than full Aadhaar data.
- Users can now present credentials for identity confirmation or age verification at select partners, including PVR INOX and BharatMatrimony. This privacy-first system keeps credentials stored locally on the device, following global digital ID standards.
- Platforms like MyGate and Snabbit will soon support Aadhaar-based authentication, signaling a broader rollout in the near future. Google confirmed digital passport support for Brazil, Singapore, and Taiwan, expanding digital ID features globally.
