According to recent data, in 2024 it is estimated that between 5% and 7% of children in Spain suffer from Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which translates to about 365 000 children. ADHD hospitalizations in adolescents have multiplied by 17 between the years 2000-2021, representing 8.7% of juvenile psychiatric income with urgent implications for early detection and support.
The pressure on mental healthcare is growing as more and more people seek help for their concentration problems. According to the Dutch mental healthcare association, this is "at the expense of people who genuinely need care." Chair Ruth Peetoom is concerned about this.
