Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton takes a key recovery step, running outside as club awaits his return
MRI results showed enough improvement for Stanton to start an outside running program, but manager Aaron Boone said his return remains unclear.
Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton began an outside running program this week after a comparison MRI "showed a lot of improvement," manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday.
Stanton, 36, remains on the 10-day injury list after suffering a strained right calf while running the bases at Houston on April 25, with no specific return target.
Prior to this milestone, Stanton regularly hit off the Trajekt pitching machine, electronically simulating specific MLB pitchers, and performed plyometric exercises to maintain conditioning.
Manager Aaron Boone said the Yankees might organize live batting practice for Stanton once they return from their road trip concluding Sunday at Sacramento.
Outfielder Jasson Dominguez, who strained his AC joint crashing into the left field wall at Yankee Stadium, may also participate in live batting practice upon the team's return.
