Wrong turn makes Air India, IndiGo planes come face to face at Ahmedabad airport taxiway
Airport authorities stopped the IndiGo jet and guided the Air India plane to its bay after the taxiway conflict, with no passengers or crew at risk.
On Wednesday, an Air India aircraft and an IndiGo plane came face-to-face on a taxiway at Ahmedabad Airport after the Air India flight took a wrong turn while taxiing toward its parking bay.
Air India flight AI2493 had been instructed to proceed to Stand 34L after landing, but the pilot inadvertently took a wrong turn, blocking the path of the Mumbai-bound IndiGo flight preparing for takeoff.
Both A320s came to a halt at a safe distance of around 200 metres from each other after air traffic authorities instructed the IndiGo aircraft to stop, successfully preventing a collision.
Air India stated, "There was no compromise on the safety of passengers and crew," while the IndiGo flight was briefly delayed before eventually departing for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai.
The airline added, "The matter has been reported to the regulatory authorities and an investigation initiated," as airport authorities towed the Air India aircraft to its designated bay.
