Wrexham Owners Buy Turf Pub Next to Racecourse Ground
The deal keeps the pub under single ownership with the club and stadium and preserves its future, while Wayne Jones remains the day-to-day landlord.
- On Monday, Wrexham AFC ownership confirmed the purchase of The Turf from Admiral Taverns to help protect the historic pub by incorporating the venue, the club, and the Racecourse Ground under single ownership.
- Originally named the Turf Hotel, the pub served as the birthplace of Wrexham AFC in 1864; landlord Wayne Jones, managing the site for 20 years, will continue operations maintaining its "unique mix of history, atmosphere and sometimes Hollywood stardust."
- Wrexham Holdings plans "further investment into the fan experience in and around matchdays" through this acquisition, continuing a strategy to protect the club's future by ring-fencing key assets like the Rock and land for the new Kop.
- Celebrity visitors including Paul Rudd and Channing Tatum have frequented the pub, which gained global recognition through the "Welcome to Wrexham" docuseries, while minority investor Eric Allyn noted the location has become a "second home."
- Recovering from a 6-0 loss to West Ham, the club sits 14th in the Championship following a recent 2-1 victory over Southampton on Saturday.
