- In a video posted on Tuesday, Iran's sports minister said Iran cannot participate in the 2026 World Cup after U.S. and Israeli airstrikes killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
- The U.S. campaign, which began on February 28, entered its 12th day, striking more than 5,500 targets and killing over 1,300 Iranian civilians.
- Iran were drawn to play two matches in Los Angeles, CA and one in Seattle, WA, facing Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand in Group G during the June 11 to July 19, 2026 tournament.
- Under FIFA regulations, the rules permit a replacement team, and Iran could face a fine of at least 250,000 Swiss francs .
- Donyamali told state television that 'Our children are not safe and, fundamentally, such conditions for participation do not exist', while Gianni Infantino said President Donald Trump welcomed Iran despite Trump saying last week, 'I really don’t care'.
