On Friday, work at SSAB's new steel mill in Luleå was paused after hydrogen cyanide was found in the workplace, which was detected in the air via the staff's gas detectors. The company will now investigate the matter further. “The safety of our employees is our highest priority,” says Carl Orring, Technical Director, SSAB.
Work at the construction site also had to be suspended in the spring when about twenty employees developed symptoms of illness.
