B.C.’s Gender Pay Gap Decreased
Women in B.C. earned 85 cents for every dollar men made, while pay gaps remained wider for Indigenous, racialized and newcomer women.
- The gender pay gap in Canada decreased to 14.5 per cent in 2025, according to the Pay Transparency report released Monday by The Finance Ministry.
- Mandated under the Pay Transparency Act, these measures require employers to include expected pay ranges in job postings and foster open compensation discussions without reprisal.
- Three of the largest sectors employ nearly 30 per cent of the workforce, with agriculture and fishing showing the largest improvement at 12 per cent decrease.
- Indigenous women earned 83 cents for every dollar earned by men, while Racialized women earned 74 cents, despite higher education levels among Racialized women.
- About 700 large employers currently report under the requirement; in fall 2026, The Finance Ministry will expand reporting to all employers with 50 or more workers.
