“Woman With The Whistle” Dons Pink To Ref Region’s Volleyball Games

By Dianna Troyer When she climbs her ladder to officiate volleyball games in October, Roanne “Ro” Gillette, the familiar woman with the whistle for 55 years throughout southeastern Idaho, will be wearing pink right down to her shoelaces. Athletes and coaches wear pink, too. “It’s how we show solidarity for Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” said Gillette, a first referee in districts 4 and 5. “I always pass out pink flags to the line judges, too.” …
