Woman hurt after ice crashes through SUV windshield on way to grandsons’ party

A block of ice struck the vehicle on Route 202 under the Route 114 overpass, injuring Dawn Harsh, who said, 'It came down from the bridge as soon as we came out from that overpass.'
Henniker police and New Hampshire Department of Transportation investigators say they cannot confirm if the ice fell from the Route 114 bridge or a vehicle, and the NHDOT said, 'At this time, there is no indication of an ongoing concern for motorists.'
Witnesses described the impact as a loud crash when ice struck the Kia SUV windshield, bruising Harsh across her chest and face while presents remained in the backseat; Harsh retrieved items from the towed vehicle on Sunday.
Henniker police responded and investigated, and the injured woman was treated at a local hospital and released, though she still experiences pain.
Harsh urged drivers to clear snow and ice and called for better roadway maintenance amid a big winter, saying she hopes "we can make our roadways safer" this year.
