Woman handed gift card receipt for £63 quadrillion
A till error caused a £63 quadrillion gift card balance to appear, 670 times the global economy, but the customer was only charged the correct amount, a spokesperson said.
At a 200 Degrees in Flying Horse Walk, Nottingham, Sophie Downing received a receipt showing a remaining balance of more than 63 quadrillion pounds after using a 10 gift card on February 12.
A company spokesperson explained that the incident resulted from an administrative error in the till system, where staff entered the gift card number instead of the gift card value.
The staff at the Flying Horse Walk, Nottingham branch reacted that the guy was really confused and said 'I've never seen it before but it's fine for you to keep it,' while she said, 'I thought it was really funny. I've never seen anything like that before.'
After the purchase, the company said 200 Degrees charged Downing correctly, issued a corrected receipt, and she used the card again on Tuesday, February 17 but will not use it further.
The scale of the printed figure — by some measures — made the balance about 100,000 times richer than Elon Musk and 670 times the world economy, according to coverage by Nottinghamshire Live.
