Hiker Dies After Falling 75-100 Feet From North Carolina Waterfall
POLK COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, JUL 14 – Astrid Angelina Madrid Ticas, 29, died after falling 75 to 100 feet at Big Bradley Falls; authorities urge caution on trails following a recent series of waterfall accidents.
- On Sunday around 1:30 p.m., Astrid Angelina Madrid Ticas, 29, fell 75 to 100 feet at Big Bradley Falls trailhead, Saluda, North Carolina.
- Big Bradley Falls, a 75-foot waterfall in a small gorge, has no barriers and only warning signs, and WLOS reported a 47-year-old man died here last year.
- Saluda Fire and Rescue, Mill Spring Fire Department, Polk County EMS, Polk County Emergency Management and the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded at the scene, rescue personnel worked diligently to recover the victim, and officials urged the public to exercise caution while visiting trails.
- The county said officials described it as a `tragic accident`, and extended heartfelt condolences to Ms. Ticas's family.
- Warnings on the Visit North Carolina website warn hikers explore `at your own risk` and that the top is especially dangerous, officials said.
