Woman Dies After Fall at Devil’s Punchbowl on Oregon Coast
Fire crews rappelled to the injured woman and a Coast Guard helicopter flew her to a trauma center, officials said.
On Wednesday, June 3, a woman died after falling onto rocks at the Devil's Punchbowl State Natural Area near Newport, Oregon, according to Depoe Bay Fire District officials.
Due to the challenging terrain, firefighters rappelled down to the rocks below the park's collapsed sea cave, where they initiated advanced life support care for the victim with critical injuries.
The United States Coast Guard helicopter hoisted the woman from the cave after she was stabilized, with two firefighter-paramedics providing critical care during flight to a trauma center in the Willamette Valley.
Despite lifesaving measures, the woman died shortly after arriving at the hospital, though officials did not release her identity or disclose which facility treated her.
The Depoe Bay Fire District asked the public to "use extreme caution" and avoid entering fenced-off areas when visiting coastal cliffs to prevent further accidents.
