Brecht Warnez has received the most preferential votes on the CD&V WZR-RKD list during the municipal elections of 13 October in the merged municipality of Wingene. This is evident from the recount that took place on Monday. Warnez will not become mayor of the merged municipality until 1 June 2028 by mutual agreement, until then Huys will wear the sash.
