Wisconsin State Patrol trooper dies after falling from freeway
Officials said the 29-year-old trooper died after falling from a bridge while deploying a tire deflation device during a traffic pursuit.
On Friday, October 2, Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper Bradley Ritger, 29, died from injuries sustained after falling from an Interstate 94 bridge in Elk Mound during a traffic pursuit.
While assisting in a traffic pursuit on September 21, Ritger deployed a tire deflation device on an I-94 bridge deck west of the Dunn County/Eau Claire County line; as he moved to cover, he fell onto the roadway below.
A member of the 67th Recruit Class, Ritger served the State Patrol's Northwest Region for nearly five years, primarily in Dunn County, and previously worked with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for three years.
Gov. Evers mourned Ritger as a 'young life lost far too soon,' while the State Patrol placed a memorial vehicle at the Northwest Region Post in Eau Claire where the public may leave condolences.
Authorities confirmed the suspect from the September 21 pursuit was arrested, while Gov. Evers announced a forthcoming executive order to lower flags upon finalized funeral arrangements as the family grieves.
