Quebec City police confirm body found was a homicide
Police say evidence from the scene led investigators to classify the death of 21-year-old Gabriel-Simon Akokane as a homicide.
Quebec City Police are investigating the death of 21-year-old Gabriel-Simon Akokane, who was found dead in a home in the Saint-Jean-Baptiste neighbourhood on Friday.
Officers found Akokane dead around 11 a.m. while carrying out a search at the St-Gabriel Street residence as part of an investigation by the urban violence unit.
Police spokesperson Sandra Dion confirmed Akokane had injuries on his body but declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
Although Police initially described the death as suspicious, evidence gathered at the scene led officials to officially classify the case as a homicide.
As of Saturday, Quebec City Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Akokane's death, with a mobile command post deployed to the scene.
The Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) confirmed Saturday morning that the man discovered dead the day before in a residential neighborhood in the La Cité-Limoilou borough was the victim of murder.
