Ohio Turnpike Issues High Wind Travel Ban for Certain Vehicles
The Ohio Turnpike bans vehicles over 7 feet 6 inches tall due to high winds and heavy snow squalls, affecting travel on the 241-mile toll road through Thanksgiving, officials said.
- On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission announced a travel ban for high-profile vehicles on the entire 241-mile Ohio Turnpike from 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, 2025, due to expected high winds with rain and snow.
- The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties for Thursday and Friday, warning of heavy snow squalls and winds of 20 to 35 miles per hour with gusts up to 45 mph.
- The ban bars all high-profile tow-behind trailers, campers, boats, enclosed trailers, mobile homes, office trailers, livestock trailers, long combination vehicles over 90 feet, triple-trailer combinations, and two-axle buses longer than 40 feet.
- Officials noted the following vehicles may still travel: self-propelled motor homes, pickup trucks with slide-on camper units, and vehicles towing fifth-wheel trailers; the ban will be evaluated throughout the weather event and may disrupt Thanksgiving travelers.
- Forecasts show system-driven snow transitioning to lake-effect snow Wednesday night over Lake Erie, shifting inland by Thursday morning to Ohio's snowbelt east of Cleveland, with snowfall intensifying into Friday and over 8 inches expected.
