The new winter tire regulations for heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses have now come into effect, regardless of road conditions. The reason is, among other things, to prevent accidents like the major traffic chaos that occurred on the E22 in January 2024. “I welcome it,” says Mikael Jonasson, CEO of the bus company Tuna Trafik in Eskilstuna.
If you drive with summer tires in winter conditions, you risk a fine of 1000 kroner per tire – that is, up to 4000 kroner for a regular passenger car. All-season tires are also not always sufficient. In severe winter conditions – such as large amounts of snow and ice – the tires must be marked with the symbol '3PMSF' (Three Peak Mountain Snowflake), which shows a snowflake on a mountain peak.
