Heavy snow and ice caused over 800 flight cancellations at Amsterdam Schiphol and widespread train and road disruptions across multiple European countries, officials said.
- On Wednesday, more than 1,000 passengers spent the night at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, where staff set up hundreds of field beds and served breakfast as crews cleared runways and deiced planes.
- Heavy snow and squalls disrupted transport across the Netherlands and beyond, with fresh snowfall hitting Dutch rail and road networks during the morning rush, while Meteo France warned northern and western France, including the Paris region, of snow and black ice on Wednesday.
- At least 800 flights were canceled at Schiphol, and more than 700 kilometers of traffic jams formed, while Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot reported over 100 cancellations at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and about 40 at Paris Orly Airport.
- Rail operator NS urged travelers to delay journeys due to fewer trains, while Paris suspended bus traffic, Eurostar faced delays, and trucks and school buses were banned from roads Wednesday.
- Across the region, utilities and urban transit faced knock-on effects from the cold snap as Göteborg, Sweden removed all trams Wednesday, and Berlin began restoring power after four days without electricity following a suspected far-left attack on high-voltage lines.
