Edwards Cleared to Play for Timberwolves in Series Opener Against Spurs After Expedited Rehab
Anthony Edwards returned after expedited knee rehab and will be on a minutes restriction as Minnesota opens the Western Conference semifinals.
Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards has been cleared to play Monday night against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals, returning 10 days after hyperextending his left knee.
Edwards suffered a bone bruise and hyperextended his left knee on April 25 during Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets, though initial projections suggested he would miss multiple weeks.
Shooting just 35.8% from the field and 25.8% from three against Denver, Edwards was clearly hampered by his injury. Coach Chris Finch confirmed he will be on a minutes restriction.
Minnesota needs its superstar guard to advance past the Spurs, especially after losing Donte DiVincenzo to a torn Achilles tendon and with Ayo Dosunmu sidelined by a calf issue.
The Timberwolves were 2-1 against San Antonio during the regular season, though the Spurs feature Defensive Player of the Year Victor Wembanyama. Edwards previously scored 55 points against the Spurs in mid-January.
Good news for the Minnesota Timberwolves - Anthony Edwards, who suffered an injury in the first round of the playoffs, is ready to return to the court.
