College Football Playoff Live Rankings: Updated 12-Team Bracket Revealed in First CFP Poll of 2026
The selection committee will rank 25 teams based on late-season performance, strength of schedule and notable game outcomes from November.
On Tuesday, the College Football Playoff committee releases its first 2026 rankings, initiating the selection process for the 12-team postseason bracket. This reveal marks the start of the race toward the national championship game on January 25 in Las Vegas.
Thirteen committee members will evaluate teams based on performance, managing the bracket with five automatic conference bids and seven at-large spots. ESPN, which pays roughly $1.3 billion to broadcast the playoff, will provide live coverage of the rankings.
Unbeaten Miami is a favorite for the top spot, though Indiana, Georgia, BYU, and Utah remain in contention for high rankings. Committee scrutiny intensifies for the Buckeyes, who dropped from the top 10 and now face bubble team status.
Ranking updates will continue every Tuesday through December 1 before the final bracket announcement on Sunday, December 6. The postseason kicks off with first-round games on campus starting December 18.
ESPN and the playoff have a handshake agreement to expand the postseason to 24 teams next year. The current 12-team format remains the focus as contenders navigate the remaining November schedule to secure their spots.
