Royal family arrives in Doetinchem for King’s Day, after honoring Pope Francis

An hour later than planned, the royal walk in Doetinchem starts today at 12 o'clock. The NOS broadcasts the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome live on TV and out of respect it has therefore been decided to postpone the festivities by an hour.

Doetinchem welcomed the royal family on Saturday. It was a sunny day, with lots of orange, and a message from the king to his people.

The Dutch royal family arrived in Doetinchem around noon Saturday to begin King’s Day celebrations, following a morning marked by reflection on the death of Pope Francis. The festivities in Doetinchem started more than an hour later than originally scheduled, to accommodate the funeral of Pope Francis, which began at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
