Whaley Dominates Quarterfinal, Advances to Semifinal at U.S. Amateur Championship - Florida State University
Whaley became the first Florida State golfer to reach the U.S. Amateur final since 2008 after a 1-up win over Carter Loflin.
Florida State rising senior Jack Whaley advanced to the U.S. Amateur Championship match on Saturday, securing a 1-up semifinal victory over Carter Loflin at Merion Golf Club.
Since joining Florida State in August 2025, Whaley has climbed over 200 spots in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, now sitting at No. 90 and fueling his breakthrough performance.
Facing pressure on the 18th, Whaley sank a 5-foot bogey putt after his pitch rolled 45 feet, sealing the victory and preventing a potential Loflin comeback.
Representing England, Whaley faces Stanford junior Jay Leng in Sunday's 36-hole championship match, with both finalists earning spots in next year's Masters and U.S. Open.
Whaley aims to become the first English amateur to win since Matt Fitzpatrick in 2013, while also becoming the first Florida State golfer to reach the final since Drew Kittleson in 2008.
