Sydney's New International Airport to Welcome First Passengers in October
The airport will start freight first and launch passenger services with Jetstar, while four airlines have announced routes and up to 10 million passengers a year are expected.
On Sunday, October 25, Western Sydney International Airport will open to passengers, with Jetstar operating the inaugural commercial flight to the Gold Coast at 11am using an Airbus A320.
Freight operations commence July 26, preceding commercial flights, as the new hub operates 24 hours daily unlike Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport's night curfew restrictions.
Qantas and Jetstar committed to basing 15 domestic aircraft at the hub, though Qantas will delay passenger services until March 28, 2027, using smaller QantasLink Embraer E190s.
Macquarie MP Susan Templeman acknowledged significant concerns for her community regarding flight paths, while the federal government secured $1 billion for rail corridors to the airport.
International connectivity expands with Air New Zealand launching Auckland flights on October 26 and Singapore Airlines beginning daily Changi services on November 23, supporting projections of up to 10 million annual passengers.
