The New York City Department of Health announced on August 6 that, as of July 25, 612 mosquito swarms carrying West Nile virus had been detected citywide, nearly double the 326 detected during the same period last year. Although no human cases have been reported this season, the Department of Health has strengthened mosquito monitoring and control efforts and urged residents to take precautions against mosquito bites.
