- Settlements, which are illegal under international law, have existed for decades, with more than 500,000 Israeli settlers living in the territory excluding East Jerusalem alongside some three million Palestinians.
- Attacks against Palestinian communities have increased since the start of the Gaza war in 2023, as the Israeli-occupied West Bank remains under occupation since 1967.

Israeli settlers set fire to a mosque in a West Bank village on Wednesday, local officials and witnesses said. Videos on social media showed the mosque in the town of Jiljilya ablaze while walls were marked with Hebrew graffiti reading “revenge”.
Israeli settlers have again attacked Palestinian mosques in the West Bank and set them partly on fire.
