Candidates have until May 23 to enter the race, and hopefuls must be members for 20 years and post a 187 million euro guarantee.
- Real Madrid officially opened its electoral process Thursday following president Florentino Perez's announcement that he will seek re-election for another term.
- Candidates must have been club members for 20 years and provide a guarantee of $219m, equivalent to 15 per cent of the annual budget, backed by personal assets.
- Spanish businessman Enrique Riquelme, president of the group Cox, requested more time to prepare a candidacy; however, Perez rejected this in a Wednesday interview on Sexta.
- There is a 10-day window for candidacy submissions until May 23; if no other candidates emerge, Perez will retain his post as occurred in 2013, 2017, 2021, and 2025.
- Since Perez returned in 2009, Madrid has secured five Spanish league titles and six European cups, building on his leadership during the Galactico era beginning in 2000.
