- At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, The LEGO Group's LEGO Smart Brick drew major buzz and was demoed by Euronews Next; it will launch in March exclusively within LEGO Star Wars sets.
- Programmed by a small square tag and awakened by shaking, the Smart Brick detects nearby bricks, charges on a pad, measures a standard 2 x 4, and lasts around 45 minutes after eight years of development.
- A hands-on demo illustrated LEGO designers dialled sounds and interactions, featuring a mother LEGO duck whose four ducklings misbehaved with quacking and farting sounds when her back was turned.
- Tom Donaldson, senior vice president at the LEGO Group, said the Smart Brick offers a chance to deepen physical play amid children's screen time scrutiny, and he hopes other companies will enhance imaginative play.
- As technology miniaturises and broadens, designers say Smart Bricks will enable richer motion-sensitive play, encouraging players to explore and experiment with lighting, sounds, and interactions.
