'We are not giving up,' Family continues search for missing Army specialist off California coast
After official searches ended due to rough seas, the family launched a private operation using diving experts and rescue jet skis familiar with dangerous coastal conditions.
- On Nov. 22, Amanpreet Thind, Army specialist, was swept out to sea at Soberanes Point on California’s Big Sur coast, and the family continues a private search with outside diving experts.
- Local search and rescue agencies searched for five days but called off efforts last week because of rough ocean conditions.
- The family has organized a private search, hiring a dive team with sonar and Mavericks-experienced big-wave jet ski operators, while Angel's Diver Juan Heredia volunteered for free.
- Family members say they need closure and continue searching despite official suspension, with Gaganpreet Thind, brother and spokesperson for the family, saying, `Hopefully, you know, we can find them with all the help we are getting`.
- Thind was studying multiple languages at the Defense Institute School in Monterey when he was swept off the rocks, and State Parks official Mike Dippel said the jet ski operators searching are at the highest level of operation.
