Watson's 13-yard TD run in OT lifts UMass over Ball State 31-30
Watson finished with 302 passing yards and two rushing touchdowns as UMass ended a four-game losing streak.
On Wednesday, quarterback William Watson III scored a 13-yard touchdown in overtime, giving the University of Massachusetts a 31-30 victory over Ball State at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak and marked the Minutemen's first home win against a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent since October 8, 2021, ending a string of 20 straight losses.
Watson threw for 302 yards and two rushing touchdowns, while Ball State running back Jalen Bonds carried 17 times for 132 yards.
After the Cardinals scored on their opening overtime possession, kicker Brody Boehm missed the extra point, allowing Derek Morris to secure the win by converting his own extra point.
The Minutemen, now 5-4, must secure two more wins to guarantee bowl eligibility, with their next game scheduled a week from Wednesday at Toledo.
